A quick explanation, and where things stand.
Why is this happening?
We're a bootstrapped, two-person team. User acquisition in personal finance is expensive, and it hasn't grown as fast as we hoped. On top of that, open banking connections and commercial financial-data APIs cost real money per user — and at our current volume of paying customers, we can no longer cover that cost while keeping the quality bar we set for ourselves. Are you shutting down?
No. We still believe in WonderMoney — it's one of the few genuinely all-in-one personal finance apps built in the EU. We're changing how it's funded, not ending it.What's changing?
We're moving to a free, open-source, bring-your-own-key (BYOK) model. Instead of WonderMoney paying for your bank connections and market data behind the scenes, you'll be able to connect your own API keys from supported providers, which we'll list with setup guides. That lets you run WonderMoney for free, for personal use. What happens to my current account?
Your data is safe and untouched. Accounts whose trial or subscription has already ended stay in that state for now — we're not able to reopen full free access to the current, WonderMoney-hosted version, because that's the exact cost structure we can't sustain. BYOK access is what we're building next. Can you recommend another app instead?
Honestly, we can't — we built WonderMoney because we couldn't find another all-in-one app that did what it does, and we still haven't.I have more questions.
